Our Story

Turning Science into Trust, and Trust into Action

InterpreData was founded with a clear vision:
To bridge the gap between cutting-edge science and the real-world need for transparent, verifiable supply chains.

Our journey began in Western Australia, where a small team of data scientists, bioinformaticians, and industry experts recognized a critical challenge:
While the world demanded sustainability, traceability, and accountability, the systems to scientifically prove those claims were outdated, fragmented, or simply missing.

We set out to change that.

2021 - Traceability Grants Program - Round 2

First Grant Proof.png

Working with the University of Adelaide on our first federal traceability grant to develop a DNA Database for Timber, we were the bioinformatics partner of the Advanced DNA Identification and Forensic Facility (ADIFF) at UoA.

Grant Summary

Tracebase DNA for timber

Development of a reliable database to collect, store, analyse, and classify data relating to timber DNA as a means of verifying type and origin of timber.

2022 -Global Innovation Linkages program - Round 3

Second Grant Proof.png

Our second grant allowed us to develop an automated bioinformatics pipeline for species identification, still using reference samples from other sources.

With TraceBase, we shorted the processing time from 3 weeks to 1 day after sequincing.

Grant Summary

Developing a scientific verification tool for global timber supply chains

In 2021, InterpreData partnered with the University of Adelaide and DoubleHelix Tracking Technologies to receive a $500,000 federal grant to develop genetic marker technology for tracking timber and food products.

2023-Regulatory Technology Research and Insights Grant

Our latest grant allowed us to convert our own samples into reference samples using our chloroplast gene annotation pipeline.

This gave us the capability to develop our own reference database of protected species.

Grant Summary

Eliminating illegitimate timber and plant derived products from global supply chains

This project will trial implementing DNA species identification and machine learning technologies to help identify and eliminate illegally sourced timber and plant products from supply chains. Once complete, a genetic traceability system will be ready to incorporate into supply chains, protecting Australian markets from fraudulent imports and support Australian growers seeking to export their products.

Current Project - Commercialisation

Partnering with Naturalis in the Netherlands, InterpreData will introduce Tracebase as a solution to the Timber importers as a scientific verification layer that will form part of the reporting requirements of the EUDR
